Cookie policy
Last updated 7 August 2026
Gearboxd uses cookies in three groups. Only the first group is set without asking you, and you can refuse the other two in one click — refusing is exactly as easy as accepting.
1. Strictly necessary
Always on; the site cannot work without them. No consent needed and none asked for.
- Session cookies — keep you signed in.
- gbx_promo, gbx_next — carry an invite or promo code and your destination across a sign-in with Google. Both expire after 15 minutes.
- Theme — remembers whether you chose light or dark.
2. Analytics — your choice
- gbx_aid — a random first-party identifier that lets us count how many visitors become members, and which meet a printed card came from. It holds no personal information and is never shared. Expires after a year.
3. Advertising — your choice
Adverts are served by Google AdSense, which is a third party. If you accept advertising cookies, Google sets its own cookies and may use them, along with data it already holds about you, to choose adverts and measure whether they worked.
If you decline, the AdSense tag is never loaded. We do not load it and then ask it to behave itself — the script simply does not run, so no advertising cookies are set at all. You may still see adverts we run ourselves; those set no cookies and involve nobody else.
What Google does with data it collects is governed by Google's policy for partner sites, and you can adjust your Google ad settings at myadcenter.google.com.
Gearboxd Premium removes adverts entirely — no tag, no advertising cookies, no slots.
Changing your mind
Clear cookies for this site in your browser and the banner returns, so you can answer again. We also re-ask everyone whenever this policy changes in a way that affects what we set, rather than carrying an old answer forward onto new terms.
